About BraaiBru
BraaiBru started the way most useful things do: with a problem. Standing at the fire with the coals just right and realising the tongs, the firelighters or the ice were still at home. Every braai seemed to have one forgotten item, and it was always something obvious.
So we built a checklist. Not an app you have to install, not a service you sign up for β just a page you open on your phone at the shop or while packing the car. It comes pre-loaded with the essentials for a South African braai, from boerewors and wood to Mrs Balls chutney and bin bags, and you can add whatever your family insists on.
What it does
- Six categories covering fire, meat, sides, drinks, condiments and the boring essentials.
- Add your own items to any category; they stay there for next time.
- Tick things off as you shop or pack. Your progress is remembered on your device.
- Share your list to the WhatsApp group so everyone knows what is covered.
- Light and dark mode, and it works on any phone, tablet or computer.
What it does not do
There is no account and no sign-up. Your checklist lives in your own browser and is never sent to us β we could not read it if we wanted to. The site is free to use and is supported by advertising; you can read exactly how that works in our privacy policy.
Who makes it
BraaiBru is an independent side project, built and maintained by one South African who braais more than is probably reasonable. It is not affiliated with any brand, butcher or wood supplier. If you have a suggestion, a missing item that every braai needs, or you have spotted a mistake, get in touch β we read everything.
