Privacy Policy
BraaiBru is a free braai checklist. We designed it to collect as little about you as possible. This page explains, in plain language, what is stored, what third parties are involved, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect β and what we do not
BraaiBru has no accounts, no sign-up and no server-side database of users. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or location, and we do not receive the contents of your checklist.
Your checklist, any custom items you add, and your light/dark theme preference are saved in your browser using a feature called local storage. This data stays on your device. It is not transmitted to us and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser data, or using the reset button in the app, removes it.
2. Hosting and technical logs
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like almost every web host, Vercel may process standard technical information when your browser requests a page β such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the request β to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use this information to identify or profile individual visitors. Vercel's own privacy policy is available at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
3. Advertising and cookies
BraaiBru is free to use and is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads on this site. In particular:
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google may use information such as your IP address and general location to show ads relevant to your region.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, and you can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in the European Economic Area, youronlinechoices.eu. For more on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The checklist will continue to work with cookies disabled, since it uses local storage rather than cookies for your data.
4. Sharing to WhatsApp
The share button opens WhatsApp with your checked items pre-filled as a message. That message is created on your device and handed directly to WhatsApp; it does not pass through BraaiBru. WhatsApp's handling of the message is governed by WhatsApp's privacy policy.
5. Children
BraaiBru is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
6. Your rights under POPIA and other laws
BraaiBru is operated from South Africa, where the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) applies. Because we do not hold personal information about you, there is normally nothing for us to access, correct or delete. Where a third party such as Google processes your information for advertising, your rights are exercised through the controls linked above and through that provider. If you believe we hold personal information about you or have questions about your rights, please contact us.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change how the site works in a way that affects your privacy β for example, by adding a feature that stores data on a server β we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
8. Contact
Questions about this policy can be sent via our contact page.
